The lyrics for the song.

64 Zoo Lane Theme Song refers to the titular theme song that is played at the start of each episode of the series of the same name, serving as the opening song of the series. The song is sung by a children's choir and a female singer who describes the details and behaviour of many animals in this song.

Synopsis

Opening Theme

The song opens with a door with the number "64" on it. The title words "Zoo Lane" appear as the camera zooms in closer at the door where the aforementioned words are seen below the number "64" on it. In the first and second seasons, the door was designed with a green painting and the words "64 Zoo Lane" were painted in purple. However, beginning in Season 3 and 4, the door had a major redesign where it is painted in red and purple with the title "64 Zoo Lane" being entirely in yellow. Soon as the camera zooms closer to the door, Lucy opens it as the camera stops moving, where she talks to the viewers about her home and her very special neighbours.

The song begins with an image of a camel as an offscreen singer begins singing, followed by a mother kangaroo and her joey hopping in front of the screen just before leaping to leave the screen; the scene fades to an African scene where a hippo lands on the ground and smiles happily. The next image is a trio of koalas on eucalyptus trees, which follow in sync to the tune of the chorus before the next part which shows a chameleon.

The next scene has a chameleon with a sun in the background, where it eats a fly while sitting on the grass. The scene after that features a scene of a polar bear happily sliding down a snowy hill, followed by an scene of two monkeys in the jungle having fun together. The next part shows three frogs in a river; each emerging from the water in sync to the song and leaping onto the lilypads with a happy expression.

The next part has Toby and Doris playing together; Toby gets his tail caught by a large crocodile named Victor only for the latter to get bitten by another crocodile, which reveals to be Kevin. Several other animals are very happy for saving Toby from Victor. The next part shows three flamingos in the savanna which land on the ground just as the three follow in sync to the tune of the chorus singing.

The next part shows a hyena happily walking across the jungle, followed by a zebra dashing in the savanna. Further images include a porcupine in the jungle, a ram in the mountains, a beaver in the forest, and two snakes (In Seasons 3-4, South America is replaced by North America where a herd of bison is seen instead of a ram). The next part has Nelson in a blue background, followed by the last part showcasing a butterfly in a yellow background, followed by a giraffe named Georgina. The singer describes Georgina as a very tall animal.

The camera goes up to show the head of Georgina. Lucy gently starts petting Georgina on her head and after a while, the mother of Lucy (whose voice is only heard) tells her daughter to go to bed. The song ends when Lucy goes to bed.

Ending

At the end of each episode when Georgina puts Lucy to bed after listening to each story, the chorus singing the "64, 64, 64 Zoo Lane" verse is briefly heard just before it loops to the scene of Nelson and Georgina sleeping together where the credits appear, followed by an instrumental version playing during the credits. The aforementioned verse would be heard again during the credits scene just before the tune and the song both end together.

Lyrics

Chorus: 64, 64, 64 Zoo Lane!
64, 64, 64 Zoo Lane!
(spoken dialogue)
Lucy: Hello, I'm Lucy. I live at 64 Zoo Lane. And I have some very special neighbors. Look!

(continued sung dialogue)
Singer: There's one with a hump
And one who can jump
And one who is, well... a little bit plump
Chorus: 64, 64, 64 Zoo Lane

Singer: Some like it hot
And some like it chilly
And some like it both ways and that's a bit silly
Chorus: 64, 64, 64 Zoo Lane

Singer: Some are friendly, some are scary
But one thing is sure: not one is ordinary
Chorus: 64, 64, 64 Zoo Lane!

Singer: Some are spotty
Some are stripy
They're prickly and woolly and furry and slimy

Some are quite big
And some are very small
And the last one's Georgina, who's incredibly tall!
Chorus: 64, 64, 64 Zoo Lane
64, 64, 64 Zoo Lane!

(spoken verse)
Mother: Bedtime, Lucy!
Lucy: Okay, Mom.

Trivia

  • An extended version of the song was included in the karaoke machine from CBeebies' UK site as well as the album CBeebies: Song Time. However, the speaking dialogue is omitted (specifically the parts where Lucy introduces herself and the part where Lucy's mother tells her daughter to go to bed).
  • The song remains in English in the Chinese version. Only Lucy and her mother are speaking Chinese while the singer and the chorus are speaking English.
  • In the episode "The Story of Alfie and Charlie's Canoe", Lucy mentions that she saw sixty-four red cars, which the animals sing "64, 64, 64 red cars", using the same melody as the theme song.
  • The very first scene that is shown during the theme song has had many changes over the years:
    • In Season 1, after the titles "Millimages / Zoo Lane Productions present" in yellow coloring appears, the words "Zoo Lane" appear on below the number "64" to form the title "64 Zoo Lane". When Lucy opens the door, the words "Zoo Lane" disappear as well as the aforementioned texts seen above the number "64" which also disappear.
    • In Season 2, the yellow texts were replaced by the logos for Zoo Lane Productions and Millimages respectively. Thus, the two logos form the credits reading "Millimages / Zoo Lane Productions present" while the words "Zoo Lane" appear on below the number "64" to form the title "64 Zoo Lane". It should be noted that the Zoo Lane Productions logo was placed on the left side next to the Millimages logo seen on the right side, which can be misinterpreted as "Zoo Lane Productions / Millimages present". Unlike in the first season where the credits seen above the number "64" disappear, the words "Zoo Lane" remain on the door after Lucy opens it. However, in this season, each onscreen non-logo text is shown with a first capitalized letter designed in green coloration while the rest of the corresponding letters are designed in purple coloration.
    • In the third season, the title "64 Zoo Lane" is already shown on the door rather than the words "Zoo Lane" physically fading in. Additionally, the texts reading "Millimages / Zoo Lane Productions present" were used again. However, each first capitalized letter is designed in blue coloring while the rest of the corresponding letters are designed in yellow.
    • In the fourth season, it uses the same opening scene as in the third season. However, the "64 Zoo Lane" logo depicting an image of Lucy and Georgina on it is displayed on the right side of the screen.
